Police officers in Eldoret are investigating an incident where a Ugandan athlete suffered severe burns after being attacked by her Kenyan boyfriend.
Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan marathon runner who competed in the Paris Olympics last month, has burns over more than 75% of her body after reportedly being doused with fuel by her partner.
She is still admitted to the hospital and in serious condition.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah Ole Kosiom informed The Star newspaper that Cheptegui's boyfriend, Daniel Ndiema Marangach, also suffered burns from the incident.
