Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has dismissed recent allegations claiming she was detained in the United Kingdom for attempting to smuggle large sums of money into the country from Kenya.

In a statement issued on Monday, Ndeti clarified that these accusations were false and politically motivated to tarnish her reputation.

Ndeti explained that those behind the rumors were unaware of the strict regulations enforced by UK Customs and Border Control and financial institutions. She reassured the public that she and her family were safe, emphasizing that they remain in good standing both locally and internationally.

The governor also announced her intention to pursue legal action against individuals spreading the misinformation, adding that any harm that might come to her family would be attributed to the perpetrators. Ndeti expressed concern that these fabricated claims had created dangerous perceptions about her and her loved ones.

Despite the attacks, Ndeti reiterated her commitment to her duties as governor, noting that such distractions would not hinder her mission to improve Machakos County.

She highlighted her administration's progress, mentioning nearly 1,000 projects completed since August 2022 and a record Ksh.1.7 billion in revenue collection during the 2023-2024 fiscal year—the highest since the introduction of devolution.

This ongoing dedication, she said, would continue to drive the development and transformation of Machakos County despite efforts by her political opponents to undermine her.
