Dame Maggie Smith, the legendary actress renowned for her unforgettable performances in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, has passed away at the age of 89.
Her family shared the news, stating that she died peacefully in the hospital on Friday, September 27, with her loved ones by her side.
A towering figure in British cinema and theater, Smith earned two Academy Awards for her roles in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1970) and California Suite (1979). In addition, she garnered four more Oscar nominations and won eight BAFTA awards, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest talents of her era.
In a heartfelt statement, her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, expressed their sorrow:
