Former Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka has declined an appointment as chairman of the Kenya Animal Genetic Resource Centre, a position offered by President William Ruto.
Ruto, through a Kenya Gazette notice on Friday, October 4, appointed Munyaka, a long-time ally, to head the state agency for a three-year term. However, on Sunday, October 6, Dr. Munyaka shared a statement on social media, respectfully turning down the role.
"I appreciate the President for the opportunity to serve Kenyans in this capacity. After deep reflection, consultations, and considering the current political climate, which poses challenges to achieving the government’s economic transformation agenda, I have made the tough decision to decline this appointment," Dr. Munyaka wrote.
He also extended his best wishes to the President and his administration in leading the country forward.
Previously, Ruto had nominated Munyaka for the position of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development. However, the CAS role was declared unconstitutional by the courts.
Munyaka, who contested on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, lost his bid to retain his parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election to Caleb Mule of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
