On Thursday, Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi led a large-scale tree-planting initiative at Maseno School in Kisumu West Constituency, in celebration of Mazingira Day. During the event, 3,000 seedlings were planted, marking a key contribution to Kenya’s goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2030.
The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Principal Secretary for Public Service Amos Gathecha, Huduma Kenya CEO Ben Kai Chilumo, NYS Deputy Commandant General Jamleck Chabari, and Kisumu County's Benson Leparmorijo, along with other dignitaries and local leaders.
In his speech, Muturi highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and restoration in the fight against climate change and the enhancement of Kenya’s green cover. He encouraged citizens to take up the responsibility of planting and caring for trees, emphasizing the government’s dedication to the national tree-planting campaign.

Principal Secretary Amos Gathecha reinforced the government’s commitment to integrating environmental conservation into public service initiatives, encouraging every citizen to participate.
This tree-planting effort aligns with Kenya’s broader environmental strategy, which focuses on afforestation, reforestation, and the safeguarding of water catchment areas. As Mazingira Day concluded, the planting of 3,000 trees in Kisumu underscored the urgent need for environmental action.
