On Thursday, Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi led a large-scale tree-planting initiative at Maseno School in Kisumu West Constituency, in celebration of Mazingira Day. “As Kenyans, it’s our duty to plant trees not just for ourselves, but for future generations. Every tree we plant brings us closer to our goal of 15 billion trees, crucial for protecting our environment and ensuring a sustainable future," Muturi said.
Principal Secretary Amos Gathecha reinforced the government’s commitment to integrating environmental conservation into public service initiatives, encouraging every citizen to participate.
This tree-planting effort aligns with Kenya’s broader environmental strategy, which focuses on afforestation, reforestation, and the safeguarding of water catchment areas. As Mazingira Day concluded, the planting of 3,000 trees in Kisumu underscored the urgent need for environmental action.
