Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly criticized President William Ruto, arguing that he should have faced impeachment before his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Citizen TV's show, Kalonzo pointed out that the public participation process related to Gachagua's impeachment motion revealed widespread dissatisfaction with Kenya Kwanza's leadership, particularly with President Ruto.
Kalonzo referred to a famous Kenyan phrase, "kufa dereva, kufa makanga," which translates to both the driver and the conductor is at fault, implying that both Ruto and Gachagua have lost public trust. He stated that public opinion favored the impeachment of both leaders, not just Gachagua.

Kalonzo argued that Ruto should have been the first to face impeachment due to growing discontent among Kenyans.
The opposition leader also pointed to the June 25, 2024, protests, during which young Kenyans were killed, abducted, and remain missing. He criticized the President for failing to protect citizens' lives and uphold their constitutional rights, citing this as an apparent reason for impeachment.
Kalonzo argued that these tragic events should have been enough to initiate the process against Ruto.
Kalonzo also dismissed the 11 grounds of impeachment brought against Deputy President Gachagua by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse, calling them "frivolous." However, he acknowledged that the matter might be for the courts to decide.
Musyoka’s comments emphasize the mounting pressure on Kenya Kwanza’s leadership as the public and opposition grow increasingly critical of the administration's handling of national issues. Impeachment discussions reflect broader dissatisfaction.
