A group of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Siaya County is yet to receive their promised monthly stipend under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program launched by President William Ruto in 2023. The CHPs were supposed to receive regular payments, funded by both the national and county governments, along with health insurance coverage.

However, several months after the program's introduction, some CHPs in Siaya, particularly those working at Malunga Dispensary in Gem Wagai sub-county, have not been paid. Led by Eunice Oyuga, these health workers expressed frustration, noting that while their colleagues at other facilities have been receiving the stipend, over 10 CHPs at their dispensary have not seen any payment. They are now calling on Siaya Governor James Orengo to intervene.

Another CHP, Pamela Pambo, echoed similar concerns, stating that they have not been given any explanation as to why others are being paid, but they are not.

In response, Siaya County's Health Executive, Dr. Martin K’Onyango, acknowledged the problem and assured that it was being addressed. He explained that the payments are processed by the Ministry of Health in Nairobi and that those with incorrect details have faced delays. He promised that the issue would be resolved soon.
