Ships navigating the Indian Ocean are on high alert after warnings of potential Somali pirate activity.

The Maritime Security Centre—Horn of Africa has reported that 13 armed pirates have reportedly departed from Ceel Huur in Hobyo, Somalia, heightening concerns among maritime operators and security agencies.

Recent updates from the EU Naval Force and EOS Risk Group confirm these warnings, signaling a resurgence of pirate activity in the area.

A UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) notification dated October 23 described an alarming incident involving the vessel HUAN HANG 99, which was approached by five unidentified small vessels while near the southern coast of Aden.

The situation escalated until the unidentified vessels retreated after warning shots were fired.

Experts indicate that while there is a potential for increased pirate activity, these groups are not expected to regain the organizational strength they had a decade ago.

Continued international naval presence and robust anti-piracy measures remain vital deterrents against a full-blown resurgence. Maritime authorities are urging all vessels to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as tensions in the region heighten.
