The United States Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, has officially announced her resignation.
In her statement, Whitman expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized her commitment to strengthening U.S.-Kenya relations.
Whitman led initiatives that enhanced both nations' security, health, and economic stability during her tenure. She highlighted significant achievements, such as providing emergency funding to counter severe flooding in 2023 and supporting ongoing health programs tackling malaria, HIV, and MPOX.
Whitman took pride in championing a "people-centered" agenda to improve the well-being of Kenyans and Americans.

Whitman also underscored her contributions to fostering economic ties between the U.S. and Kenya, mainly through her “Why Africa, Why Kenya?” campaign, encouraging American businesses to invest in the country.
Thanks to her efforts, trade, employment, and U.S. investment in Kenya have reached unprecedented levels. She noted vital improvements within the U.S. Embassy, including reducing non-immigrant visa wait times from over two years to approximately two months.
Reflecting on her time in Kenya, Whitman praised the embassy’s staff for their dedication and expressed optimism about the future of U.S.-Kenya relations. As she prepares to leave, she expressed her confidence that the partnership, now more robust than ever, will continue to thrive, building on 60 years of cooperation to create healthier, safer, and more prosperous societies.
Whitman concluded by thanking the government and the Kenyan people for their hospitality, expressing her deep appreciation for the chance to represent her country in Kenya.
