The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory for moderate to heavy rainfall expected in several regions of Kenya from Thursday to Friday.
Areas forecasted to experience significant rain include the Central Rift Valley, Central Kenya—including Nairobi—and parts of the southeastern lowlands, where rainfall may exceed 20mm within 24 hours starting Thursday.
The rains are expected to intensify by Friday, November 15, with areas such as Nairobi and southeastern lowlands likely seeing rainfall surpassing 30mm over the same timeframe. This heavy rainfall is expected to lessen starting Saturday, November 16, over most parts of the country.

Counties projected to receive the highest rainfall include Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Nyeri, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Isiolo, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Narok, parts of Kajiado, Nairobi, Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni.
The advisory also cautions residents about the potential for flash floods, particularly in areas downstream of rivers where sudden water rises may occur even without direct rainfall. The department warns that heavy rain upstream could quickly increase river levels, posing a flood risk for downstream areas.
The Met Department advises the public to avoid walking or driving through moving water, stay away from open fields, and avoid sheltering under trees or near grilled windows due to the increased risk of lightning strikes.
People residing in landslide-prone zones, such as the Aberdare Ranges, Mount Kenya, and other hilly regions, should remain vigilant due to an elevated risk of landslides during these heavy rains.
