Opposition leader Raila Odinga has attacked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following his impeachment amid a protracted political feud.
During a political rally in Vihiga on Sunday, Odinga ridiculed Gachagua's earlier claims that he had laid traps at the State House to block him from gaining access to President William Ruto.
"Nimeona juzi mtu mwengine anabweka kule ati tumeweka mitego kila mahali, huwezi kupenya. Mtego ya aina gani? Ati aliwekea baba mtego, eti hakuna mambo ya handshake, ya nusu mkate. Akowapi sasa Gachagua? Mjinga sana," said Odinga.
In response, Odinga mocked Gachagua, suggesting the so-called traps backfired, leading to his downfall. “Recently, someone was bragging about setting traps at State House. What kind of trap is that? He claimed there would be no handshake or shared government. Where is Gachagua now? Such foolishness,” Odinga remarked.
Gachagua’s remarks also became a contention among political allies and opponents, including President Ruto. Under pressure, Gachagua backtracked, claiming he dismantled the traps upon noticing Ruto’s improving relations with Odinga.

From his Karen residence, Gachagua explained, “My boss and I agreed to set up traps to keep Raila out. I checked them every morning and evening. But when I saw my boss warming up to him, I decided to watch from the sidelines.”
He further alleged that Ruto and Odinga’s reconciliation began during a trip to Uganda, where they bonded over President Museveni’s livestock.
In October, Gachagua was impeached and replaced by Kithure Kindiki, marking the end of his tenure as Deputy President.
