Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has encouraged this year’s Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) graduates to consider opportunities to work abroad as they enter the job market. Speaking at KMTC’s 93rd graduation ceremony held at the Moi International Sports Complex in Nairobi on Thursday, Kindiki highlighted the rigorous and practical nature of their training, which he said ensures they are not only prepared for the local job market but also competitive globally.

“This balanced training approach makes you highly competent and valued, both within Kenya and internationally,” he noted. He added that the government’s international labour mobility programs provide additional pathways for graduates interested in pursuing employment abroad.

Kindiki commended KMTC for equipping students with skills that facilitate their transition into both local and international job markets. He pointed out specific initiatives such as the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) training for overseas opportunities, foreign language courses, and pre-departure training to prepare graduates for global competitiveness.

“Leverage these opportunities and represent Kenya internationally, just as our athletes have done, as accomplished ambassadors of our nation,” he urged the graduates.

A total of 21,261 students graduated during the ceremony. Kindiki also highlighted Kenya’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom, which aims to deploy 20,000 Kenyan nurses to the UK by 2025. So far, 76 Kenyan nurses have already taken up employment in the UK under this agreement.
