The past 24 hours have been marked by drama and controversy surrounding 61-year-old Grace Njoki Mulei. Grace Njoki Mulei, one of the women who disrupted Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa’s press briefing at Afya House last week, has been released on a Ksh.10,000 police cash bail. Her release follows her arrest on Thursday night at Ladnan Hospital in Nairobi, where she was seeking medical attention.

Mulei made headlines after disrupting a press conference held by the Health Cabinet Secretary. The incident led to her arrest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later that evening.

Following significant online uproar, Grace Njoki Mulei has regained her freedom after being granted bail of ten thousand shillings.

According to Citizen TV, Njoki expressed her frustration, stating that she cannot stand seeing patients suffer due to the dysfunctionality of the SHA.

Grace disclosed that she is a nurse passionate about her patients' well-being and takes pride in seeing them benefit from the newly introduced scheme.

"I am just a nurse who hates seeing patients suffer because of SHA,” Grace Njoki says after being freed on Ksh. 10,000 police bail.

Outside Capitol Hill Police Station, Njoki’s lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, criticized the authorities, claiming they were uncertain about the charges to press against her. “They said they would continue with investigations. This is a botched scheme, which is why they cannot set a court date. We are ready for you in court, Madam Barasa,” he remarked.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had earlier issued a statement indicating that Njoki was apprehended for causing a disturbance at the Ministry of Health Boardroom. According to the DCI, she was tracked to Hombe Road, off Juja Road, and arrested. She was detained at the Capital Hill Police Station pending her court appearance scheduled for Friday.

Njoki, a 61-year-old nurse, was part of a group that visited the Ministry of Health on January 15, 2025, to protest the inefficiencies of the Social Health Authority (SHA).
