Renowned NTV journalist Smriti Vidyarthi has announced her exit from Nation Media Group (NMG) after 16 years.
Smriti announced the news on social media just before delivering her final prime-time news bulletin on Monday, February 10, expressing gratitude to NMG and Kenyans for their trust and support.
“Sixteen and a half years of service to the Nation Media Group and the nation. Thank you for trusting me. For now, tune in tonight at 9 pm for my last bulletin on NTV,” she wrote.

Following her final broadcast, NTV aired a heartfelt tribute featuring colleagues sharing their experiences working with her. The emotional moment left Smriti in tears on live television.
“I’ll miss you so much. Thank you for giving me a beautiful sendoff. I was not expecting that, and tears galore on national TV,” she said. “I truly believe that I am a respected journalist, and to you, I say Asante. This means a lot—thank you so much.”

During her tenure at NTV, Smriti held the roles of senior anchor and editor, covering significant live events and interviewing notable figures such as Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and three-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt.
Her journalism career began at K24 in January 2008 as a news anchor before she transitioned to NTV in September of the same year.
