Tensions have escalated in Kerio Valley after four people lost their lives in two separate bandit attacks on Monday.

This violence disrupts a period of relative calm in the region, raising concerns among residents.

The first incident occurred in Dira, Tiaty Constituency (Baringo County), where armed bandits targeted a herder, killing him before making away with an unspecified number of livestock. Security officials are still assessing the exact number of stolen animals.

Shortly after the initial attack, a retaliatory ambush in Elgeyo Marakwet County left three people dead. Among the victims were two pupils from Kimongo Primary School who were shot on their way home near Soko Bora, close to Tot.

These attacks follow a previous bandit raid last month, where three people were killed near Kolowa Bridge while returning from Kolowa Market to Tot.

Security forces, including the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), and General Service Unit (GSU), have been deployed to the region to investigate and prevent further violence.
