A 15-year-old boy from Chemogoch Village, Bomet County, is recovering at Litein Mission Hospital after consuming a raw green snake.
The shocking incident left villagers in disbelief and prompted an urgent medical response.
The teenager, who sells traditional beer, reportedly brought the snake home after some of his customers had captured and killed it. His mother, Emmy Ruto, was horrified when she discovered the lifeless reptile in his pocket.
"He told me, 'Mother, wait, let me show you,' and then I screamed. He ran to the stream, ate the entire snake, and drank some water," she recounted.
As the venom took effect, concerned villagers rushed him to a nearby dispensary. However, as his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Litein Mission Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

His uncle, John Ruto, shared that attempts to stop him were unsuccessful. "People thought he had been bitten by the snake. We had to restrain him and take him to the hospital immediately," he said.
Medical experts at Litein Mission Hospital worked tirelessly to stabilize the boy. According to Dr. Valentine Mbithi, this was an unprecedented case. "We've never encountered anything like this before. Fortunately, he is now stable and recovering in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) after being discharged from the ICU," she confirmed.
The bizarre event has shocked the local community, with many questioning what could have driven the teenager to consume a raw snake.
