Authorities in Nyamira County are investigating the tragic death of a 22-year-old Chuka University student, Brian Mogaka, who reportedly succumbed to injuries after being severely beaten by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango Constituency.

Mogaka had allegedly been suspended from Chuka University due to accusations of cannabis abuse. In response, his mother, Teresa Mogaka, sought the help of her brothers to discipline him. Reports indicate that the uncles restrained Mogaka by tying his hands and legs before subjecting him to relentless caning, which led to his death.

In an attempt to cover up the incident, the suspects allegedly changed his clothes, placed his body in bed, and planted cattle pesticide nearby to create the illusion of poisoning before fleeing the scene.

Local law enforcement officers from Ekerenyo Police Station, along with investigators, arrived at the home on Tuesday night and transported the body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for further examination.

Ikonge Assistant Chief Joseph Masese confirmed that the deceased had multiple bruises and injuries consistent with a severe beating.

Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and determine the incident's full circumstances.
