Adelle Omondi, a Nairobi resident has reported a harrowing incident that took place on March 26, 2025, while she was traveling on a Mash Poa bus to Mombasa. Omondi alleges that she was drugged, robbed, and potentially sexually assaulted during the trip — a shocking account that has sparked public outrage and heightened concerns over passenger safety on Kenyan public transport.
Adelle boarded the bus at 9 p.m. and took seat 37, next to a man who offered her a drink. She declined and instead drank her own bottled water. Shortly after, she began to feel dizzy and slipped into an unusually deep sleep.
When she regained consciousness at 4 a.m. in a hospital in Voi, she was shocked to find her phone, money, and underwear missing—items she had been wearing or carrying when she boarded. Adelle suspects her seatmate may have drugged her, stolen her belongings, and possibly assaulted her, although medical tests conducted at the hospital were inconclusive.
The Mash Poa Bus Company has been uncooperative in the investigation, declining to reveal the identity of the man seated next to Adelle, share CCTV footage, or provide the bus manifest, citing privacy concerns. Adelle reported the incident to the Mombasa Central Police Station, but as of April 20, 2025, the investigation remains stalled, with no arrests made.
