Commissioning the Northern Collector Tunnel (NTC) plans underway will allow Nairobi City County to inject an additional 140,000 cubic metres of water into the city.

According to Governor Johnson Sakaja, the National Government would work with the County Government of Nairobi to officially open the Northern Collector Tunnel.

Speaking during a familiarization tour of the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Ltd since assuming office on Monday, Sakaja noted that the Northern Collector Tunnel will lessen the city's water deficit burden and provide dignity for the residents of Nairobi.

Sakaja is committed to supporting the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company Ltd to realize and achieve its mandate.

Further, he revealed that the County government and the City-County were looking at other ways to establish additional water sources in Nairobi.

Sakaja also assured the residents of Nairobi of his commitment to ensuring the accessibility of water and basic sanitation services.

At the same time, he informed the NCWSC that the County depended on the Company to fulfil his promise to Nairobi residents when he vied for the position.

Sakaja also pledged to advocate for increased financing from donors on a national and international level to upgrade the deteriorating water and sewage infrastructure currently in place.

"I will do all I can to ensure resources are availed to expand and rehabilitate the infrastructure," he stated.

Sakaja added that Ruai's wastewater treatment facility has to be automated.

Days before his first tour of the Dandora Estate Sewage Treatment Plant to look into investment potential under the "Green Opportunities in the Sewerage System" project, the Governor paid a visit to the city utility's headquarters.
