According to an official statement from the police department on Monday, twenty people were tragically killed in an accident in which a cash-carrying armoured truck lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming bus on a highway.

The report also indicates that ten others are in critical condition and receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Reports from witnesses at the scene indicate that after the head-on collision, the bus rolled and plunged into the river.

The police department spokesperson says that the cause of the accident is still unknown and that investigations are still ongoing. Still, they suspect heavy downpours in the area could have contributed to the accident. The department is also conducting searches in the nearby river to recover passengers who might have drowned or been swept away by the floods.

According to an official police report, 20 people tragically died, and 61 others were injured in an accident yesterday on road N1-29 Mashovhela, towards Musina in Vhembe District, when an armoured van collided head-on with an oncoming bus after losing control.

This accident comes barely a week after another accident between a bus and a truck in Pretoria left over 40 people dead. Passengers seriously injured in the crash were airlifted to the hospital, while the rest received treatment at the scene and were discharged.

Meanwhile, in less than five days, vehicle collisions in Stellenbosch, Klapmuts, and Bridgetown in the Western Cape injured at least 35 people and killed one. Road accidents are common in South Africa, and police urge motorists to be cautious.
