This news comes just a day after president William ruto announced vacancies in the IEBC. The positions were left vacant after former IEBC commissioners left the office after the end of their contracts.

Raila odinga has been a fierce critic of the IEBC, openly accusing them of rigging the elections in favour of his opponents. Raila has been calling for reforms in the electoral body.in the recently concluded elections, odinga claims that he won the elections by garnering over 2 million votes. He, however, claims that the former IEBC chair Wafula chebukati colluded with the kenya kwanza team to announce ruto as the country's president.

Due to the claims of electoral malpractice, odinga has refused to acknowledge William ruto as the president of Kenya and has held several rallies to dispute his legitimacy to lead the country. Raila called for chebukati prosecuted at the international criminal court for interfering with people's decisions.

Wafula Chebukati, on the hand, has maintained that the IEBC conducted the elections legally and that this was the best and most credible election he oversaw. This claim is despite the split that happened between the IEBC commissioners. A four-member team famously known as the cherera 4 fueled raila's claim of electoral fraud by terming the election results as opaque.

Chebukati and his team have insisted that the disgruntled commissioners were part of a plot to change the results in favour of raila. chebukati insisted that that top government official wanted to bribe and coarse him into changing the results. The IEBC will have a new set of officers who will oversee the next general elections.
