Kiambu County Government has introduced a monthly clean-up exercise that will involve the community and all county staff members to promote a clean environment.
The Clean-up exercise will be carried out on Fridays of every month beginning February 24, 2023, from 8:00 am to 12 noon.
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has stated that the purpose of the clean-up exercises is to encourage the county staff and the community to maintain a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
Wamatangi has urged every Kiambu County resident to participate in the clean-up exercise at their respective locations since it will be happening in all 12 sub-counties.

The clean-up exercise dubbed the initiative ‘Mazingira bora, Jukumu Letu.
Additionally, the Governor urged all stakeholders to join efforts and help to make the initiative more sustainable, which will involve unblocking drainage systems, sweeping and garbage collection.
“We are mostly targeting market places, roadsides, bus stages, public parks and urban centers because we believe a clean environment is a healthy environment for everyone,” he said.
On his part, NEMA County Director Mr Steven Wambua has encouraged the County Government to move from waste dumping/disposal to waste recovery.
Further, he urged the County to develop a waste recovery centre where recyclables can be recovered, like paper, plastics, and cartons for sale, enhancing the economy.
He also noted that most of the dump sites in the County are filled to the brim, noting that there is a need to concentrate on waste recovery to ensure the waste that only goes to the dumping site can be recycled.
“There is only one licensed waste recovery center in the county ‘Taka Taka Solutions’ which is at Kiambaa sub-county, if the county Government can come up with more in every sub county we will be going in the right direction in maters waste management,” Wambua said.
Wambua added that for the monthly clean-up effort to be sustainable, all garbage generators should be included, and county-level bylaws should be enacted to address individuals and landlords who engage in improper waste disposal.
