Several locals have expressed their outrage at the deployment of Kenya Defense Force officers in Turkana County to stop the bandits' reputation by crying about the planned disruption of the local routines in that area. The government gave residents a three-day amnesty to turn in any illegal firearms they may have, but so far, none of the people has done so.

Bandits that harassed the residents of Marakwet, Turkana, and Baringo counties caused a great deal of suffering. The government has spent millions of shillings to send KDF and other officers to the area to fight the crooks.

Gunfights have replaced negotiations when it comes to dividing the water and pasture. The Elemi Triangle will hamper President Ruto's attempt to disarm the communities in the north.


Secondly, Kenya and Sudan claim territory in the entire Ilemi Triangle, which is still contentious. The international border between the two nations is still up for debate if you look at the official maps of the two nations. As a result, both sides use the indigenous tribes as weapons to fight one another. Ilemi was, for many years as being too far away and possibly not worth a fight.

On Friday, February 10, bandits attacked the Kitale-Lodwar route in Turkana County, killing six people, including four police officers.

Many additional police officers, including the sub-county police commander, were taken to the hospital after a protracted shootout with robbers left them with bullet wounds.

"In this instance, the CS has told Parliament that the police will conduct the operation under the general supervision of the Inspector General. According to the Belgut MP, the KDF would only supplement the police, in which case the CS must report to the National Parliament anytime it is deployed following Article 241 (3)(b) of the Constitution.


The source claims recent information regarding the strategies KDF soldiers employ to cope with bandits in unstable areas has just come to light. A video widely shared on social media shows that KDF personnel can descend from the helicopter using a rope. The location and time of the operation are unknown; thus, it is unclear if the video taken was at a dangerous spot.
