Kehancha town has gained municipality status after the signing and the gazettement of the Municipality charter passed by the Migori County Assembly.

And the signing of the Kehancha Municipality Charter by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko.

 According to Ochilo, the assessment of the towns met the requirements for granting it to a municipality, making it the county's fourth Municipality after the towns of Migori, Rongo, and Awendo.

He said that the town's new municipal status will necessitate further infrastructure development by the county and the federal government.

The county has already posted job openings for the members of the Municipality Board who will be in charge of managing the Municipality.

"The county has already advertised positions of board members who will be tasked with effectively running the Municipality, " Ochillo said.

He stated that the town will need an integrated growth strategy, proper tax collection, and effective and efficient service delivery to the locals to keep the Municipality charter status.

Ochilo agreed that efficient countywide service delivery will depend on meaningful participation in the administration of municipal issues.

He reaffirmed that the county will assist the town in restructuring and revising its plans to align with the region's development goals for the Kuria.

When a municipality is established, the county and the federal government increase their resource allocation for developmental initiatives.

 As a municipality, Kehancha town will have access to various development negotiations and allocations, according to Ochilo.

He emphasised that the Municipality will help the Kuria residents to generate more wealth that will enable the town to grow economically by utilising the presented opportunities to increase the status of their new Municipality.
