Judiciary Chief Registra Ms Anne Amadi has announced the establishment of a new court in Yala Township, Siaya County as part of its efforts to ensure social transformation through access to justice
Speaking during an inspection of a building donated by the county government of Siaya in Yala together with area Governor Mr James Orengo, he said the law requires the judiciary to have a magistrate’s court in each sub-county hence the support from the county government will help it realize its goal.
“The law requires that we have a magistrate’s court in every sub county and Gem is one of the sub counties that do not have a court,” she said.
Amadi has said that they will establish a small claims court of up to Kes 1 million.
Further, she said that the court will save the residents of Gem time and money that they have been using to travel to either Siaya or Maseno law courts to seek justice.

She hailed the county government of Siaya for supporting the establishment of the court, adding that the judiciary will rehabilitate the building to suit its needs before sending staff.
On his part, Siaya governor, James Orengo said the devolved unit will cooperate with the judiciary to ensure that the local residents get judicial services.
“In the administration of justice, justice delayed is justice denied,”he said.
Orengo who is one of the leading constitutional lawyers in Kenya said that it is in the spirit of underscoring the principle that the county government came with the conclusion of establishing a court in Yala.
