Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i's attorney, Danstan Omari, has explained the purpose of his client's journey to the UK during a security agency investigation.

It all comes after a few sources suggested that Matiang'i's travel may be connected to a sinister plot, given that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Corruption Commission are looking into him (EACC).

The DCI is investigating the ex-minister regarding the reported police raid at his house two weeks ago as EACC is mounting scrutiny on his fortune accrued during his 10-year stint.

Omari responded on Wednesday, saying that the claims are "unfair aspersions" on his client and that they should sift through the situation before going public.

The reports are "obviously stage-managed wars and evidently driven by unfathomable vendetta and animosity," he continued.

Omari claims that Matiang'i flew to the UK on KLM (Passenger) Flight KL 566 on Sunday, February 19, and even informed senior security sectors of his plans.

Omari clarified that his client was there in a private capacity to handle an urgent family situation.

"I was told to alert high security and diplomatic personnel unofficially about my client's two-week trip to the UK. Hence, it is unjust to criticize his movement, "Omari added.

Those who have followed his travel plans over time will attest that he frequently visits that region of the world using KLM and, in this case, through open public ways.

Regarding the continuing inquiry, Omari asserted that his client was unaware of any questions about him, but he welcomed any action officials took under their constitutional duty.
