Former interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi is to be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony over the alleged raid at his residence in February.
According to the charge sheet obtained from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), Fred Matiangi is accused of attempting to instil fear, chaos, or violence among Kenyans by claiming that his home had been plundered by a special unity of officers who wanted to arrest him.
Matiang'i is also charged with publishing false information violating Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act.
"On February 8, 2023, at Karen Ngong View Estate within Nairobi County in the Republic of Kenya with intent to cause panic, chaos or violence amongst citizens of Kenya jointly with others published in the media that your house had been raided by a battalion and or "garrison" of officers intending to arrest you, a fact you knew to be false," the charge sheet prepared by Chief Inspector of Police attached to the Investigations Bureau of DCI Headquarters Maurice Shiraho read in part.

Matiangi was arrested after responding to a summon issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) relating to his Karen home raid charges. According to Matiangi's counsel, Danstan Omari, who spoke with Citizen Digital, the cross-examination was supposed to be about the summons. However, when they arrived at the DCI, the investigation officers began questioning Matiangi about his assets.
They left the former CS and his crew in the boardroom after saying they needed to acquire his fingerprints.
The legal team for Matiangi claims that they have anticipatory bail orders and would not permit their client to be held against their will. Matiangi had left the country a few days ago for the UK, claiming he had something urgent to discuss with his counterparts in the UK regarding his private business.
Azimio la Umoja coalition Leader Raila Odinga was at the DCI offices in the afternoon but was denied entry.
