Officials have called for additional crackdowns on protesters. Nonetheless, top country officials have hinted at a possible relaxation of the nation's strict zero-tolerance approach to the virus following protests calling for an end to lockdowns and increased political freedom.

Zero covid policies involved constant testing and quarantines, even for those who don't have the virus and mass lockdowns of factories across the country. Residents grew tired of these restrictions and protested in China's major cities.

Vice Premier Sun Chunlan said that the omicron virus was weakening and the vaccination rates were improving. This news is according to a state-run agency.

ANZ Research analyst said that he believes China is moving towards learning to live with the virus. An approach that many western countries have adopted.

China is marking its third anniversary since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic. According to the world health organization, china has had 30,205 deaths and over 9 million cases of covid infections since the pandemic began.

Talks of covid relaxation come as the country experienced hit record in infection rates since the pandemic began.

Could these relaxations be seen as a sign of weakness.?china has not witnessed these massive protests since the democracy protests in 1989.

Relaxation of covid 19 rules is good news to investors and workers in china. Zero covid restrictions led to interruptions in businesses across the cities as some facilities had to be closed for high infection rates or for fear of infections.

Relaxation of the rules might not help much because many companies moved their production lines out of china when operating regulations became unfavourable. They moved to counties such as India, Japan, Vietnam, and Thailand.
