A two-year-old child drowned in basin water outside their house in Dandora after the mother went to take a shower in her bathroom and left water outside her house.
The mother of the child Tabitha Njeri told police that her daughter Margaret Muthoni was playing outside the house at that time.
The child reportedly slid and fell into the basin with water before drowning.
Njeri told police she walked out of the bathroom and later dressed up before she started to call her daughter, oblivious of what had happened.
Further, she says it was after she walked out of the house that she realized the daughter was unresponsive in the basin full of water.
She rushed there in a bid to rescue her, but it was too late, police said.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said preliminary findings had shown the body was lying in the water that was in the basin.
“It is possible the tragedy happened, but we are investigating to know more,” he added.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
