Eight children, the school management, and a private school instructor were seriously hurt after two school buses crashed head-on at the Tokyo stage along the Kagio-Baricho highway in Ndia, Kirinyaga County.

While the second bus is from Kutus Municipality Primary School in Mwea, the first is from Trinity Academy in Ndia.

The accident happened during the early morning rush to pick up and bring children to school.

Locals said that one bus driver lost control while attempting to pass the other, which was picking up a kid.

Grace Kanini stated, "We attempted what we could where good samaritans took the students to different hospitals in Kirinyaga County.

It took more than an hour for local officers from Baricho, Sagana, and neighbourhood residents to free a female school manager locked inside one of the school buses.

We assisted the school manager, but tragically a teacher had passed away, and a senior police officer continued.

According to the police, the administration of Trinity Academy has been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, while the eight students are receiving care at Kerugoya Hospital.

In preparation for the post-mortem, the deceased's body was transferred to the mortuary at Kerugoya Hospital.

The two buses were hauled by tow vehicles to the Sagana police station for inspection.
