According to Antony Blinkena State Department official, the US Secretary of State spoke with two generals in charge of armed forces in Sudan and "emphasized the urgency of reaching a ceasefire."

Blinken also revealed that a US diplomatic convoy was fired on Monday, though no one was hurt, in what he called a "reckless" incident.

Blinken, who was in Japan for a conference of G7 foreign ministers, spoke separately with the leaders of the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, according to spokesperson Vedant Patel.

According to a statement, Patel voiced profound worry about the murder and injuries of so many Sudanese civilians due to the ongoing, indiscriminate violence.

Sudan's army and paramilitaries have killed about 200 people and injured 1,800 since a weeks-long power struggle erupted into deadly clashes on Saturday.

Fighting occurs between the forces of two generals who seized control in a coup in 2021: army head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who commands the formidable Rapid Support Forces.

Blinken emphasized the two army generals' responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of civilians, diplomatic personnel, and humanitarian workers.

He added that a truce would "allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to those impacted by the fighting, a reunification of Sudanese families, and the international community in Khartoum to ensure the security of its presence," he added.

Blinken indicated that a 24-hour ceasefire could be a good beginning point for reducing tensions, and he warned that the conflict was "recklessly endangering" officials and residents

he added that he could confirm that they had an American diplomatic convoy that was fired on. All of their people are safe and unharmed.

"But this action was reckless. It was irresponsible and, of course, unsafe." he added.

On Monday, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged the warring parties in Sudan to "immediately cease hostilities."

Despite regional and worldwide appeals for a truce, analysts believe the violence in the capital of the chronically unstable country is unprecedented and might last for a long time.

Battles have erupted across the enormous country, raising concerns about regional spillover. Air attacks, artillery, and heavy gunfire have all been used in the fight.
