The Christ Is The Answer Ministries church has criticized the conduct of Kilifi pastor Paul Mackenzie, who is accused of persuading his congregation to starve to death.
On Hope TV on Monday, CITAM presiding Bishop Calisto Odede urged the government to thoroughly investigate the activities that resulted in the deaths of more than 70 people.
Odede explained that It's a case of scripture misinterpretation. And that Mackenzie was enforcing fasting without following biblical regulations. He added that If Mackenzie was a responsible person, he needed to have accepted that people lost their lives and went to the government to confess rather than secretly burying their bodies. When he has done that privately, it does appear like murder
Bishop Odede emphasized the importance of church regulation, stating that congregations under the NCCK had been working on a document to enable self-regulation.

He expressed his dismay, saying that, Unfortunately, when this was circulated to Independent churches, they did not want to accept this document that would help us self-regulate.
He urged Kenyans not to abandon the church because of a few bad apples.
he went on to say These are people who have misinterpreted and abused scripture rather than using it correctly, adding that We need to be able to vet the messages we hear from some preachers
On Monday evening, 73 bodies had been excavated from a graveyard in Shakahola village, Kilifi County, where pastor Mackenzie's followers were said to be buried.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, 212 persons have gone missing from their workstations in Shakahola.
On Monday, 26 bodies were exhumed, bringing the death toll in the Shakahola woodland atrocity linked to notorious Pastor Paul Makenzi to 73.
Six people and a baby boy were exhumed from a small grave on their legs. Martin Nyaguto, the homicide chief, stated that some children appeared to have been choked to death.
