After the death of Mukami Kimathi, the widow of revolutionary freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi, President William Ruto sent a message of condolences.

President Ruto praised Mukami as a remarkable woman who advocated for national unity.

"We will remember Mama Mukami fondly as a visionary and steadfast figure who carried her husband's revolutionary legacy in the struggle for freedom and justice," he wrote.

"It is tragic that she died without locating her husband's remains." Our condolences to all family members, relatives, and friends."

Mukami died on Friday at 101 in a metropolitan hospital; she had been in and out of hospitals since January 5, when she was hospitalized at a local health facility for Pneumonia symptoms.

She was released on January 12 after President William Ruto signed off on her Ksh.1 million bills barring her from leaving the premises.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua lamented the deceased as a fierce independence warrior who played a crucial part in liberating Kenya from its colonial master as he conveyed his condolences to Mukami's clan at the Lee Funeral Home on Friday morning.

"We are for sure saddened by the loss of this freedom fighter," said DP Gachagua, adding that the State would work with Mukami's family to give her a suitable send-off.
