According to police, a pregnant Thai woman who was jailed on suspicion of murdering her companion with cyanide is currently charged with at least 13 counts of premeditated murder.
Sararat Rangsiwuthaporn was detained last week for the suspected murder of Siriporn Kanwong, according to CNN's Deputy National Police Commissioner Gen. Surachate Hakparn.
Surachate said in a press conference that police have requested arrest warrants in 14 incidents of alleged murder involving Sararat, with 13 accepted by the court so far and one still waiting.
All of the victims in the potentially linked incidents currently being investigated by police ate or drank with Sararat in the days leading up to their deaths.
Surachate said all 14 victims and one survivor were poisoned with cyanide.
Sararat, arrested last week, has disputed the allegations, according to National Police Chief Gen. Damrongsak Kittiprapas, who also spoke at the news conference.
Witoon Rangsiwuthaporn, a Lt. Colonel in the Thai police, is also being probed.
Witoon was fired as a local deputy police chief earlier this week. Surachate said he also faces fraud and embezzlement charges concerning the suspected deaths.
Surachate stated that the couple is "divorced on paper" but has maintained a connection, and Witoon denied any knowledge of the murders.
Sararat is also pregnant, according to police.
Surachate told CNN on Thursday that Witoon is eager to cooperate with authorities and plans to visit his companion in prison later in the day.
Police suspect the crimes may have been motivated by money. Victims allegedly owe Sararat cash in the run-up to their deaths, prompting investigators to look into her transactions and debts.
According to the Bank of Thailand, consumer debt is a significant concern in Thailand, accounting for over 90% of the country's GDP by 2022.
The probe has riveted Thailand into many murders, with local media offering daily updates.
Serial killings are exceedingly uncommon, and most murderers are men.
