A grade three kid drowned on Sunday evening in a river near the bridge in Gendo village located in Gwasi East Sub Location inside Suba South constituency, Homa Bay County.

The third-grade student drowned while washing her clothes in the river.

During the incident, the 12-year-old girl was with her brothers.

According to reports, the river was swelled by the continuing rains that pounded several sections of the country.

The girl went to fetch water from the bridge when they were washing their clothes, according to Andrew Ombisa, chief of Gwasi East Location, and she slipped and perished in the river.

This incident comes just days after a 14-year-old boy drowned while trying to cross a river pan in the same county. The 14-year-old youngster was with his brother when they decided to swim in the pan.

According to the area's assistant chief, Neto Akech, the youngsters attempted to cross from one side of the pan to the other while swimming, but as the boy reached the middle, he lost his balance and fell into the water.

His brother returned home to alert their father. Residents who hurried to the scene could only recover the body, which was then taken to the Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
