The public will be allowed to look closer at the body of fallen liberation warrior Field Marshall Mukami Kimathi before her funeral on Saturday.

This comes after the authorities declared that the body would be open to the public for one hour before burial.

"The National Organizing Committee, responsible for overseeing funeral services, today informs people that there is going to be a public view of the body on May 13, 2023, at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi, from 6 am to 7 am," said the Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo.

The body will be transferred to the family's ancestral home in Njabini, Nyandarua County, for burial.

Meanwhile, condolence books are available for anyone who wish to pay their condolences to the late Mukami.

The books are accesible at Harambee House and Mukami Kimathi's home in Njabini.

Mama Mukami died at 96 while seeking medical treatment in a Nairobi hospital due to respiratory difficulties.

The deceased has been mourned by national leaders, including President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and opposition leader Raila Odinga, whose death has been described as a significant loss to the country.

The government will choose a senior person to manage the burial arrangements, according to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

"The senior official will collaborate with the family to ensure Mukami receives a fitting send-off." This is a tragic loss. Gachagua described her as "a symbol of our resilience and struggle."

Simultaneously, the Deputy President offered the family the government's support during and after the funeral.
