Uganda's opposition MPs are outraged by a Ksh.12.8 million (Shs350 million) budget proposal for President Museveni's beds, clothes, and footwear.
According to The Monitor, the funds are part of the Annual Budget Estimates for Fiscal Year 2023/2024.
According to the Monitor, the demonstrations were headed by Shadow Finance Minister Muwanga Kivumbi and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, who submitted the Minority Report together. Some ideas in the Majority Report given by Budget Committee Chairperson Mr Patrick Isiagi Opolot (Kachumbala County) were rejected.
"I have Shs350 million to spend on clothes." Last year, the same amount was provided. It indicates that on average, we spend Shs1 million (Ksh.36K) on the President's garments daily," Mr Ssemujju added, referring to the Minority Report.

"Our President is not a Hollywood star who must change his clothes daily." He's the head of state of a "developing" country. Why do you spend Shs350 million on his clothes every year? "What happened to the clothes we purchased last year?" Mr Ssemujju continued.
The State House has allocated Ksh.8.8 billion (Shs239 billion) in the projected Fiscal Year 2023/24 budget.
The MPs suggested a Ksh.3 billion (Shs82 billion) cut in the State House Budget.
"...How can we provide Sh43 billion (Ksh.1.6 billion) for ceremonies when the Capital City's road network is broken?" The money for ceremonies should be used to fix roads in Kampala and Wakiso, according to Mr Ssemujju.
The parliamentarians called attention to other goods supported by the State House, such as furniture, allotted Shs600 million (Ksh.22 million), and veterinary services, which has been allocated Shs184 million (Ksh.6.8 million).
