According to a new report by the World Intellectual Property Organization, Kenya was the 88th most innovative country globally in 2022.
The ranking highlights the country’s dominance in the tech space.
World Intellectual Property Organization ranks countries globally based on their innovation capabilities.
Innovations were measured on roughly 80 indicators, including literary and artistic work and commerce.
“The Global Innovation Index aims to capture the multi-dimensional facets of innovation”, reads the report.
However, the country dropped three positions from 85th in 2021.
The report revealed that Kenya performed better in innovation outputs than innovation inputs last year.
As for innovation outputs, the report observes that Kenya ranks 79th. This position is lower than both 2021 and 2020.
However, the country ranks 13th among the 36 lower-middle-income group economies and 4th among the 27 economies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Kenya’s performance is above expectations for its level of development”, added the report.
The report revealed key areas where Kenya performed better, such as infrastructure; market sophistication; business sophistication; knowledge and technology outputs; and creative outputs.
