Francis Atwoli, the (COTU) Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions, has been unanimously chosen as Vice Chairperson of the International Labour Conference (ILC) worker's group in Geneva, Switzerland.

The International Labour Organization's (ILO) top decision-making body is the ILC. It meets yearly, bringing together tripartite delegations from the Organization's 187 Member States and a handful of observers from other international players to discuss various themes connected to the world of work that the Organization's Governing Body has placed on its agenda.

The International Labor Organization's 111th session is currently ongoing in Geneva with the subject "social justice for all."

The conference will concentrate on three themes: transition to sustainable and inclusive economies, quality apprenticeships, and labour protection.

Atwoli, a nominal member of the ILO Governing Body, is leading a delegation of 30 Kenyan workers recruited from Kenya trade unions.

The Kenyan worker's delegation will participate in the ILC committee debate, resulting in proposals and conclusions that will promote workers' rights and welfare worldwide.

Ms Catelene Passchier of the Netherlands was chosen Chairperson of the International Labour Conference's Workers Group.
