A man was killed after a truck transporting sugarcane ran him over while attempting to grab a sugarcane from the speeding vehicle near the Kachok-Kondele bypass.

According to Nyanza Regional Traffic Chief Joseph Ng'ang'a, the man was run over and died on the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Ng'ang'a, the victim was taken from the trailer by force, and the rear tyres crushed him to death.

Pulling cane from trucks transporting sugarcane is customary in the lakeside city, with many people lined up along the highway to do so.

According to Ng'ang'a, the vehicle was escorted to Kondele police station for inspection after being destined for the Kabras sugar business in Western Kenya.

The truck driver was unharmed, and the deceased's body was brought to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital JOOTRH morgue.
