The Deputy President has criticized Raila Odinga, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition leader, for persistently rejecting the Finance Bill 2023, which includes the divisive Housing Fund.

Speaking in Nyeri on Thursday, DP Gachagua reiterated that the bill is beneficial to the nation and that, with the exception of the head of the opposition, all Kenyans of goodwill support it.

The DP took a swipe at the Azimio chief, adding that Odinga has consistently been hostile to any "good" plan for the nation and is deceiving Kenyans.

“Wajumbe wote wa Kenya Kwanza wako nyuma ya rais kwa mambo ya Finance Bill. Yule mtu anapinga ni Raila, na huyo hupinga kila kitu,” he said.

“Ukiona kitu Raila anapinga hicho ni kitu kizuri. Raila akikwambia mkutane Nyandarua, usiende Nyandarua, mngoje Kirinyaga. Yeye ndio anapinga na kukoroga watu.”

Gachagua added that all Kenya Kwanza associated MPs would endeavor to see that the controversial measure was approved by parliament and that the Mount Kenya area had complete support for it.

“Hapa mlimani ni mia kwa mia, ni mmoja tu anapiga kelele na ni sawa, sisi ni watu wa demokrasia; one person is okay to oppose. Here in the mountain is 100 percent …Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a ni mia kwa mia. Kiambu tuko na 12 na mmoja tu anapinga,” he noted.

In reaction to Odinga, who has continued to oppose the bill and label it an economic sabotage that will affect taxpayers, the DP made his statements.

The opposition leader insists that the bill should be retracted; otherwise, he would organize rallies around the country.
