Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, has been placed on 'forced leave' after testing positive for Covid-19.

Museveni stated on Thursday that he had delegated his powers to Prime Minister Robinah Nabanjja.

He stated that this is his second forced absence' as President in the last 53 years.

"I have thus received the second forced leave in the last 53 years, ever since we began fighting Idi Amin in 1971." "Another time was when I had sinus problems and had to stay at Mweya for a few days," he explained.

"As a result, I have isolated myself at Nakasero and delegated my work for today and tomorrow (Heroes' Day in Luwero) to Prime Minister, Robinah Nabanjja."

He stated that he is in good health and only has minor symptoms.

"However, I always like to err on the side of caution and isolate myself for the time being."

Museveni stated on Wednesday that he suffered cold symptoms and that one of three tests revealed a positive result for Covid-19.


The President detailed the events of Wednesday morning in a statement issued on Thursday, stating he had felt some mild flu-like symptoms in his right nostril.
