At least 25 people were killed when a bus transporting a wedding party crashed in India's western state of Maharashtra on Saturday.

According to CNN's Indian station News 18, Baburao Mahamuni, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Buldhana, the event occurred on the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway.

According to Mahamuni, the injured are being sent to Buldhana Civil Hospital.

According to police, the bus collapsed owing to rain at about 2 a.m. local time on Saturday while travelling from Yavatmal to Pune, and its diesel tank caught fire.

News 18 translated a tweet from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who expressed sympathy and offered compensation to the deceased's relatives.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde tweeted expressing deep grief over the horrific accident of a private bus on the Samruddhi highway near Sindkhedaraja in the Buldhana district.

The Chief Minister's Relief Fund would offer $6,000 to the relatives of each person who died "in this unfortunate incident," according to the statement.
