According to officials, five Mexicans and a Nepali pilot lost their lives after the helicopter crashed near Mount Everest in Nepal on Tuesday.

The crash occurred after a  sightseeing excursion to the world's highest mountain; the six aboard a Manang Air flight headed back to Kathmandu.

It had taken off from Surke in the Solukhunvhu district, where Mount Everest and other high mountain peaks are located, at 10:04 am (04:19 GMT), but lost communication after losing contact for about 10 minutes before crashing in the Lamajura region.

Weather factors, according to airport representative Sagar Kadel, altered the helicopter's intended course of travel. During the monsoon season, when there are often significant downpours, aircraft frequently get delayed and their routes adjusted.

According to Bhattarai chief government administrator Basanta, rescuers recovered the bodies of five people and were searching for the sixth person.

The rainy season began in May, marking the end of the tourism and climbing season. Since visibility is poor and the weather is unpredictable at this time of year, fewer tourists fly to the mountains during this period.

Nearly six months have passed since a plane carrying 72 people crashed in western Nepal, killing everyone on board.
