In numerous regions of the nation, police have fired tear gas at demonstrators participating in the opposition-organized anti-government protests.

Police used tear gas to disperse crowds gathered to picket in Nairobi's Mathare neighbourhood after engaging demonstrators in running skirmishes over the high cost of living.

Police also dispersed pockets of protesters in Kibera.

The cities of Mombasa and Kisumu and the communities of Migori, Nyamira, and Emali all saw similar sights.

Azimio demanded protests because the Kenya Kwanza government had implemented harsh taxes rules rather than prioritizing Kenyans' needs.

The opposition still needs to provide the police with an official notification of the planned demonstrations, according to Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome. Thus, the gatherings will be regarded as illegal.

The IG promised to employ "all lawful means" to break up Wednesday meetings.
