Many Azimio leaders are uneasy due to allegations that numerous police officers have been sent to arrest them.

The leaders went into hiding on Tuesday night and were found at their customary homes on Wednesday morning.

This came as news broke that several leaders, including parliamentarian Babu Owino from Embakasi East, had been arrested.

Immediately after Babu Owino arrived from Mombasa, he was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with the cause of arrest being kept unknown. A total of six additional County Assembly members and small groups of activists, including Calvin Okoth, aka Gaucho, were also placed in police custody during the night.

Some charges included organizing protests against the government, which they strongly refute.

After a spot check of most police stations revealed they had not been appropriately booked, it is still being determined if they will be presented in court.

According to government representatives, this is one of the tactics the police employ to scuttle the scheduled three-day rallies.

Other senior Azimio leaders have been missing since Tuesday evening, police aware of the issues said.

Teams assigned to look for them in the city and the countryside failed to locate them.

Operations have been halted in most of the nation due to the rallies that Azimio leaders called for and which the government has said were facilitated by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

There were reportedly isolated protests in the city, but anti-riot police dispersed the gatherings, particularly in the Eastlands, where security concerns existed.

The Azimio leaders claimed to have obtained reliable information that the police planned to make significant arrests and detain celebrities to stop the protests.
