Investigations into the strange death of former Tharaka Nithi mayoral candidate Gitare Mbiuki have been started by police in Embu County.

According to police sources, Mbiuki was discovered dead in his automobile, parked by the side of the road more than 50 kilometres from his Weru house in Tharaka Nithi.

It's believed that on Monday afternoon, he shot himself to death under mysterious circumstances.

Mbeere North Police Commander Eric Yego verified the event and stated the deceased politician's family had confirmed that he was a licensed gun owner.

According to the family, the deceased left his home on Monday at 3 o'clock. Two hours later, they tried to call him on the phone but got no response.

Yego claimed that the family was then made to file a report at a Tharaka Nithi police station before starting a search for their relatives.

Locals acknowledged seeing the car parked at the spot, according to the police chief, but they had no suspicions.

According to preliminary investigations, Mbiuki died as a result of a head wound from a gunshot. The bullet entered below the right ear and exited slightly above the left eye.

The police found the Forjas Taurus pistol and eight rounds of ammo in the vehicle.

According to the officials, the firearm was discovered on the deceased's chest, above his left hand. Additionally, a spent cartridge was found on the scene.

The deceased's body was transferred to the mortuary at Tenri Ena Hospital pending an autopsy.
