The Jubilee Party leadership of EALA MP Kanini Kega has cancelled a special National Delegates Convention (NDC) scheduled for Saturday.

They postponed the meeting scheduled for the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) till next month.

Party's Deputy Secretary General Joshua Kutuny acknowledged the modification but added that a new time still needed to be set.

"The meeting has been rescheduled, and preparations are underway. In due course, we will issue the official communication in this regard. The members and delegates have already been informed, Kutuny told the Star.

According to Kutuny, the move was motivated by the ongoing legal dispute, and their attorneys would "interpret the recent High court order."

Following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to discuss the party's position, Kega, the party's secretary general, called the meeting via a circular dated June 6.

This comes after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) declared that the May 22 meeting attended by retiring president Uhuru Kenyatta at the Ngong racetrack was invalid.

"The purported SNDC held on May 22, 2023, was convened in contravention of the party constitution and was therefore also null and void," read the committee's decision presided over by Gideon Solonka.

On July 13, the former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu's decision to give Kega and his group party leadership.

The Jubilee Gazette Notice No. 3195 of March 21, 2022, ordering that the status quo in terms of leadership continue, was suspended by Justice Asenath Ongeri.

The anticipated modifications made by Jubilee MPs supporting President William Ruto were disclosed in the notice by ORPP.

The notice stated, "The Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Jubilee Party intends to effect changes on their particular," following the authority granted by sections 20 (1) (c) and (e) of the Political Parties Act, 2011.

Significant leadership changes were also announced by Kega, who replaced all of Uhuru's allies.

Kega replaced Kioni in some reforms, while nominated MP Sabina Chege took over Uhuru's role as party head.

David Murathe's replacement as Deputy Chairperson is Eldas MP Adan Keynan.
