Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has criticized ongoing bipartisan talks between the Kenya Kwanza government and the Azimio coalition, claiming it is a waste of time.
Gachagua stated on Tuesday at the burial ceremony of the late Anne Musau, mother of Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka (Kawaya), in Machakos, that the talks were only meant to mislead Kenyans because Azimio leader Raila Odinga has met with President William Ruto and made his agenda clear on what he wants.
According to the deputy president, after a series of anti-government protests rocked the country, Odinga met privately with President Ruto in Mombasa, where he promised to call a truce on the condition that his demands be granted.

He adds that Odinga made personal requests during the meeting, such as a handshake that would allow him to form a coalition government with President Ruto.
According to the DP, the azimio leader also requested three ambassadorial appointments, all were denied.
The second head of state said that Raila was only granted a send-off package on the condition that he retire politically.
According to the DP, in the agenda for the meeting with Ruto, the opposition leader sidelined his Azimio coalition co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, only to have him later become the Azimio coalition delegation head at the bipartisan discussions.
Gachagua, who was speaking in Kalonzo's political heartland of Ukambani, alleges that the Wiper Party leader is once again being used politically and that he will be left in the cold with nothing to help his political garden, just as he was after the 2018 handshake.
The deputy president said that the government's current focus is delivering on its plan to Kenyans, not the bipartisan negotiations at Bomas, which he called a 'waste of time.
